Quebecor to buy Shaw’s Freedom Mobile for $2.86 billion

The deal comes after the antitrust regulator said it opposes Rogers’ plan to purchase Shaw. It covers all of Freedom’s branded wireless and Internet customers, infrastructure, spectrum and retail sites, the companies said in a statement. Rogers made a C$20 billion bid for Calgary-based Shaw and has also offered to sell Shaw’s Freedom mobile unit to allay competition concerns, as part of the deal.
