A developer plans to bring new apartments, townhomes and a retirement facility to the Kings Mountain area.

The 60-acre property was brought before the Cleveland County Commissioners at the Tuesday board meeting for a rezoning request.

The Moser Group, which is working on an apartment complex near the Catawba Two Kings Casino, requested that the two parcels of land on South Battleground Avenue between Kings Mountain and Grover.

“A developer is interested in the property with intentions for three things, a 100-bed nursing facility, 90 townhomes, 11 apartments with 264 units,” said Chris Martin, county planning and zoning director.

The land is nestled between South Battleground Avenue and I-85 with Eaton Corporation and other industries nearby.

Martin said the area consists of light industrial, residential and heavy industrial in the area, and the land use plan identifies it as a primary growth area.

The planning board unanimously recommended approval.

Tom Crouch, project manager with the Moser Group said the original intention was for an industrial building but the topography and bedrock made it unsuitable, and they came up with a plan for residential uses instead.

Crouch showed photos of other assisted care facilities they’ve developed and said they planned to build apartments and townhomes on the property as well.

The rezoning was unanimously approved.
