U.S. stocks opened mostly lower on Wednesday morning, a day after rising Treasury yields triggered a sharp selloff on Wall Street.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat, at around 42,529 as of 9:30 a.m. Eastern time.
The S&P 500 was losing less than 0.1%, leaving it nearly flat, at 5,904.
The Nasdaq Composite was off 0.2%, to trade at around 19,464.
Data released on Wednesday morning showed the private sector added 122,000 jobs in December — less than the Dow Jones consensus of 136,000 — but the number of people who applied for unemployment benefits in the first week of the new year fell to an 11-month low. It’s the latest sign that layoffs remained low, even as businesses cut back on hiring.
