Whether you’re a day trader back home visiting family, or just locked into what remains of the trading week here, you’ll need to know the markets’ operating hours.
Here’s a quick and dirty guide to the 2025 holiday stock market schedule for the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq as we head into the heart of the holidays.
Both the NYSE and the Nasdaq will close early on Christmas Eve 2025 and remain closed on Christmas Day 2025, according to the official NYSE Holiday & Trading Hours and the Nasdaq Stock Market Holidays & Trading Hours.
I sifted through both schedules and explained the minutiae below so you don’t miss a bell (get it?) this holiday season. Then, for those looking ahead, I list the other nine full-day market closures for 2026.
“What exactly does an ‘early close’ entail?” you might ask. The NYSE Calendar offers further detail.
In plain English, that means the major exchanges will close at 1 p.m. EST on Christmas Eve. They’ve built in some wiggle room for eligible options and late trading sessions, but by and large, that’s the hard stop.
Both the NYSE and the Nasdaq will be closed for trading on Christmas Day 2025.
That means your last chance to get trades in will be early close at 1 p.m. EST on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.
Enthusiasts who feel the need to trade will have to scramble to Kalshi or Polymarket, which remain open throughout the holiday (respective schedules linked).
Or, they can take their action to their local sportsbook for three NFL games kicking off Christmas Day.

The first two games, the Washington Commanders vs. the Dallas Cowboys and the Minnesota Vikings vs. the Detroit Lions, will take place at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST, respectively.
Remember, however, that Netflix (NFLX) nabbed the rights to broadcast Christmas Day games last year, The New York Times reported, so you’ll have to fire up the streamer to watch.
Here is Netflix’s official guide on how to tune in. The final game of the day between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs will air on Amazon Prime Video (AMZN) at 8:15 p.m. EST, per Prime Video’s official schedule, and will be the final regular-season Thursday Night Football broadcast of the season.
To send us on our way, I’ve grabbed a quick overview of the NYSE and the Nasdaq’s 2026 closure schedule. Including Christmas Day, the exchanges observe 10 full-day closures each year, according to the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq holiday calendars.

This schedule closely mirrors that of years past.
Time will tell whether upstarts such as the upcoming Texas Stock Exchange, described by The Wall Street Journal, will upset the apple cart and allow you to immediately short your uncle’s hot tip stock at the Christmas Day dinner table.
Until then, it’s business as usual.
