The Pittsburgh Steelers are gaining steam about a potential trade as Day 2 of the NFL Draft nears.
PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers and pick 32 remain red hot as we move closer to the start of Day 2 at the NFL Draft. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, as many as four teams have made “serious” inquiries about moving into the first pick of the second round.
The Steelers rushed through the first-round press conference so that they, general manager Omar Khan and head coach Mike Tomlin, could return to the war room and continue mulling calls for the 32nd pick. With quarterbacks Will Levis and Hendon Hooker still on the board after Day 1, that interest has gained steam, but Fowler says there would need to be significant compensation for the trade.
Fowler didn’t name the teams that have called, but one would guess the Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders were potential candidates to move up.
As for the Steelers, they could sit at 32 and still select players like Joey Porter Jr., who many had as their first-round pick, Brian Branch, Keion White, O’Cyruss Torrence and many others thought to be options for them in the second round.
Noise about this trade likely won’t calm down until a move is made or the pick is in. Until then, the Steelers will be working to make their final decision how what to do with 32.
