Hinds County coroner announces retirement

Sharon Grisham Stewart is retiring as Hinds County’s coroner, a position she’s held for 25 years.Grisham Stewart was first elected to the post in 1999 and began serving as coroner in 2000. She said her retirement is effective Dec. 31, 2024. “It has been my absolute honor to serve the citizens of Hinds County,” she said in the announcement. “After 25 years of being on-call 24/7, 365 days a year, it’s time for me to start the next chapter in my life. I want to thank my family, friends and the citizens of Hinds County for their prayers and support.”Grisham Stewart said she plans to spend more time with her family while exploring new opportunities. As coroner, Grisham Stewart works closely with law enforcement, health care workers and families.”I am very grateful for the support of my dedicated staff and the strong partnerships we have forged over the years,” she said. “This role has been both challenging and rewarding, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished together.”Grisham Stewart was re-elected in 2023 to another four-year term.
